During leveling, you will gear as quest rewards. The gear you get even from start can be used at even max level. Because you will be able to upgrade it.
The power of gear lies on sockets and and gems. There are 4 types of gems and the different gems goes into specific gear.
Meta Gem
This gem can only be socketed into a headpiece.
Tinker Gem
This gem can only be socketed into hands, wrist, waist and shoulders.
Cogwheel Gem
This gem can only be socketed into feet armor.
Prismatic Gem
This gem can only be socketed legs, chest, trinket, necklace and rings.
Based on what type of gear it is, it can have certain amount of sockets. When you start leveling up, you will only have one socket on the different gear types. But the more you level up your character, the more sockets you will find on the new gear that you obtain.
- All Tinker Gear has up to 3 tinker sockets. You need higher ilvl to get 3 sockets.
- All Prismatic Gear has up to 3 prismatic sockets. You need higher ilvl to get 3 sockets.
- All Cogwheel Gear has one socket.
- All Meta Gear has only one socket.
In MoP Remix, you will find many different types of meta, cogwheel, prismatic and tinker gems.
The Meta gem
This type of gem has the strongest power. This is an ability that you will use in your rotation. Examples of meta gems are:
Cogwheel gem
This type of gem is a mobility gem and is also an ability that you will use. Example of cogwheel gems are:
- Soulshape
Turn into a Vulpin that increases your movement speed and gives blink.
- BlinkWorks as the normal mage blink.
The Tinker gem
These gems are passive abilities that will activate during combat.
The Prismatic gem
These gems have secondary stats on them. The prismatic gems have different qualities with + signs next to the stat name.
+ Common
++ Rare
+++ Epic
+++ legendary (stat + stamina) The stat is the same as the epic version. only the stamina is extra.
You create a rare gem by combining 3 common gems. Then you get 1 rare gem. You create an epic gem by combining 3 rare gems. Then you get 1 epic gem. You create an legendary gem by combining 3 epic gems. Then you get 1 legendary gem.
You cannot break it back into 3 epic pieces again once you convert it.
The stats on prismatic gems are:
- Crit
- Haste
- Versatility
- Mastery
- Armor
- Speed
- Leech
- Health Regeneration
