Here is a guide on what you can do in order to get Artifact Power. Most of them can be done daily and some can be done weekly.
Mythic plus Dungeons
Mythic plus dungeons rewards Artifact Power from the chest(s) in the end on the dungeon. The amount of Artifact Power is based on what Artifact Knowledge level you are in.
If you want to grind Artifact Power hardcore style, this is the main way to farm Artifact Power because the reward is massive and you can get several Artifact Power items.
However, doing Mythic plus dungeons for Artifact Power farming can be hard since you need the gear for it, and if you are not in a pre-made group with friends or a good PuG, then it can take longer time than planned.
Order Hall Missions
You get several missions every week that rewards Artifact Power. In this case, you will aim for the bonus reward item which gives more than double the amount AP than the normal reward.
The Bonus reward from order hall missions is the one that shows up next to the main reward. When you get more than 100% success chance, the percentage above 100 is how much success chance you have to get the bonus reward.
Daily Heroic Dungeon
If you complete a dungeon via the Dungeon finder, you will be rewarded with AP power in which the amount is based on Artifact Knowledge level. Normal mode rewards much less than Heroic mode, so go for the Heroic mode.
The first time (per day) you complete a dungeon via the dungeon finder rewards massive amount of Artifact Power. If you sign up again, the reward is much less. So, aim on doing a heroic dungeon via the dungeon finder once a day.
Also, killing dungeon bosses rewards an item called Jewel of Victory which contains Artifact Power in which the amount is based on the Artifact Knowledge level you are in.
Weekly Raids via Raid finder
If you sign up on raids via the raid finder, you will kill bosses very fast (in general). Each raid boss has a chance on dropping an item called Accolade of Achievement which contains Artifact power, in which the amount is based on the Artifact Knowledge level you are in.
The Artifact Power you can get from raid bosses are 4 times higher than Artifact Power you get from heroic dungeon bosses.
Emissary Rewards through World quests
Each day, a new Emissary quest will pop up on you map. Completing 4 quests tied to the emissary quest will reward you with a chest that contains gear and Artifact Power in which the amount is based on the Artifact Knowledge level you are in.
World Quests with AP rewards
The best way is to have a world quest addon such as “World Quest List”.
In this way, you can easily see how many quests there are and where they are that rewards Artifact Power.
Depending on how much time you have, start with the quests that rewards high AP then continue with the quests that rewards lesser amount.
The total amount of Artifact Power you gain from world quests are massive and highly recommended since it doesn’t take much time for each quest.
Normal/Heroic/Mythic Raids
If you are doing raids in general, then it is a bonus for you since you will get Artifact Power items from boss kills.
If you are not in a guild/friends that raid, then it can take longer time to do this part. So, have this as a last resort after completing the other ways for Artifact Power farming.
Artifact items from world items
If you have more time and if you haven’t already looted all world items that contains Artifact Power, then this is an extra way to gain little more.
There are loads of items from chests and rare mobs in the Broken Isles that reward Artifact Power.
The best way is to get the addons (You need both if you want it to work):
- Handynotes (You need this addon as a base)
- Handynote_LegionRares&Treasures (You need this addon specifically for the treasures and rare mobs)
What is Artifact Knowledge?
The amount of Artifact Power from different items are dependent on your Artifact Knowledge level.
When hitting max level, you unlock Class Order Hall Researcher (you see a quest giver in you order hall). This researcher can make so that you research for artifact notes with the cost of Work Orders which is 500 Work Orders.
In general, it takes 3 days to complete 1 level of Artifact Research.
Artifact Research notes increase the amount of Artifact Power you get when opening Artifact power items. Here is an example of how it looks for one of my characters:
Level 1 research rewards 110% increase of Artifact Power when opening an Artifact Power item.
Level 2 research rewards 120% increase of Artifact Power when opening an Artifact Power item.
Level 3 research rewards 130% increase of Artifact Power when opening an Artifact Power item.
Level 4 research rewards 140% increase of Artifact Power when opening an Artifact Power item.
Level 5 research rewards 200% increase of Artifact Power when opening an Artifact Power item.

Level 23 research rewards 17800% increase of Artifact Power when opening an Artifact Power item.
Level 24 research rewards 22300% increase of Artifact Power when opening an Artifact Power item.
Level 25 research rewards 24900% increase of Artifact Power when opening an Artifact Power item.
Cap for research artifact notes is 25.
You can see what level you are by opening your artifact weapon trait tree and mouseover the top left corner (see pic below).
Bound on account Artifact Research items
In patch 7.1.5 you can buy Artifact Research items that are bound on account.
There are 4 different volumes you can upgrade your artifact research on other characters.
Volume 1 – Level 5 Artifact Research
Volume 2 – Level 10 Artifact Research
Volume 3 – Level 15 Artifact Research
Volume 4 – Level 20 Artifact Research
But they are called in a certain way:
Volume 1
Volume 1 & 2
Volume 1-3
Volume 1-4
Which seems to be the same as above, since you will be able to buy one of these (since it’s a compendium) depending on how far you are in your Artifact Knowledge on your “main character”
Volume 1 requires that you have at least level 10 Artifact Knowledge level.
Volume 2 requires that you have at least level 15 Artifact Knowledge level.
Volume 3 requires that you have at least level 20 Artifact Knowledge level.
Volume 4 requires that you have at least level 25 Artifact Knowledge level.
You buy artifact research Compendium from your Artifact researcher at your class order hall.
You buy the Artifact Research Compendiums with Order Resources.
I have Artifact Knowledge 17 on my character in the PTR so I could only check the price for volume 2. If you have the price on the other volumes, please share in chat. My guess is that each volume costs 500 Order Resources.
Volume 1
Will allow you to research Artifact Knowledge level 5 when used in conjunction with all unused Artifact Research Documents.
Costs: 1000 Order Resources (in PTR)
Volume 1&2
Will allow you to research Artifact Knowledge level 10 when used in conjunction with all unused Artifact Research Documents.
Costs: 1000 Order Resources (in PTR)
Volume 1-3
Will allow you to research Artifact Knowledge level 5 when used in conjunction with all unused Artifact Research Documents.
Costs: 1000 Order Resources (in PTR)
Volume 1-4
Will allow you to research Artifact Knowledge level 5 when used in conjunction with all unused Artifact Research Documents.
Costs: 1000 Order Resources?
How much Artifact Power can I get each week
Let´s do some minor calculations (Mythic dungeons no included)
If you are at level 23 in Artifact Knowledge level you will get following (Approximate):
Heroic Dungeon boss Kill 9875
Daily Heroic Dungeon via dungeon finder 71600
Raid boss kill 44750
Class hall mission 37600
Class hall bonus reward from mission 89 500
Emissary chest reward 71600
World Quest AP rewards 29000-70000
