Players and creators don't know how we get all the different gear in Delves. Mainly because Blizzard has not given any information on how it will work and also because we have seen changes when The War Within went live compared to the days before on Beta servers.
I have now tested (and wasted time and keys) together with ppl on my stream, mainly Kaine, on how this Delve system works again on live servers and will present to you how it will work.
There are 3 different sources of gear and you have either heard about the source but got wrong information, or at least one of these sources is new for you. These are;
-
Normal Delve chest rewards.
-
Bountiful Delves chest rewards.
-
Delve hidden chest rewards
Normal Delve Chest Rewards
NOT as you see and were told
The Normal Delve Chest reward is when you enter a Delve that is not lit on the map. The UI shows that the chest reward is a common chest. It also shows on the UI that the reward is 545 ilvl. So this is probably what you have seen other creators showing as well. Well, this is not totally correct, there are more.
When completing a Normal Delve and looting the common chest, there is a chance that you will proc a better gear reward. Based on what Tier difficulty the Delve is, the gear type and ilvl will differ. Know tiers have a chance to proc Explorer gear. Mid tiers have a chance to proc Adventurer Gear. High tier, such as the Tier 8, has a chance to proc Veteran Gear. When doing this on Beta, I got Veteran gear on every 3rd to 4th Delve.
So basically, if you do a Normal Delve Tier 8, you will have a chance to get Veteran Gear.
Bountiful Delve chest rewards
Before going in to the rewards of Bountiful Delves, we must first understand how many Bountiful Delves we get each day and each week.
How many Bountiful Delves do we get
Bountiful Delves have change drastically from the lsat day on Beta before The War Within went live compared to what we see on live servers. At the start of the weekly reset, you will start with 4 Bountiful Delves. Each day, you will get a maximum of 4 new Bountiful Delves. So if you have completed 2 Bountiful Delves, then the day after you will get 2 more Bountiful Delves with a total maximum of 4 Delves.
So, if you complete all 4 Bountiful Delves each day, you will have in total 28 Bountiful Delves a week,
The Rewards
A Bountiful Delve will always have two rare chests and an epic chest at the end of the Bountiful Delve run if you completed the Delve without dying to much. The Delve UI shows how many times you are allowed to die,
The two rare chests can be opened without any keys needed. The epic chest requires a Relic Coffer Key to open it.
The two rare chest will have crests, Valorstones, Undercoin. They will have a chance on giving you a new Brann Ability (Curio) and they also have a chance to drop gear. This gear starts on 554 ilvl and can be proceed into better ilvl gear. So basically, rare chest in a Bountiful Delve Tier 8, will have a chance to drop Veteran Gear.
The epic chest will drop 100% a better Gear piece. Based on what tier you complete the Bountiful Delve, you will get different ilvl rewards. The best reward is from a tier 8 which rewards you Champion Gear. Even if you do higher tiers, you will still get the same Champion Gear quality,
The epic chest will also have a chance of giving you a Brann Ability(Curio), but only upgrades of the ones you already have. It is only the epic chest that can give you the upgraded versions of curios.
How much gear can I get each week
On beta, you get Champion gear from a Tier 8 100% on EACH BOUNTIFUL DELVE, from the epic chest, We have not heard from Blizzard on if this is something we will see on live servers. I sent them a tweet about it, but no response.
The Hidden Chest reward
When completing a Delve, you will have a chance of getting a special item, called Delver´s Bounty. When you use this item, you will get the Delver´s Bounty buff which will give you a hidden chest at the end of the next delve run, called Hidden Trove.
It works in a special way
Based on what Delve Tier you looted the Delver's Bounty, the hidden chest will be tied to that Tier, So for example, if you completed a Tier 3 and looted a Delver´s Bounty, then the buff you get from it is for a Tier 3. You must then complete at least a Tier 3 difficulty to get the hidden chest. If you complete a Tier 8, and get the Delver´s Bounty, then you will get a hidden tier 8 chest when completing your next Tier 8 Delve.
What are the rewards from Delver´s Bounty
Based on which tier you get the Delver´s Bounty, the ilvl reward differ.
Tier 1 rewards Adventurer, 571 ilvl rank 1
Tier 2 rewards Adventurer, 574 ilvl rank 2
Tier 3 rewards Veteran, 584 ilvl rank 1
Tier 4 rewards Veteran, 587 ilvl rank 2
Tier 5 rewards Champion, 597 ilvl rank 1
Tier 6 rewards Champion, 600 ilvl rank 2
Tier 7 rewards (haven't tested it, sorry)
Tier 8 rewards Hero, 610 ilvl Rank 1.
The highest reward comes from tier 8.
Pre-Season
Before Season 1, we are getting a lower ilvl gear reward from the Delve Tier 3 (Adventurer 4/8. So it seems that the Veteran Gear reward that we see in Beta will be active when Season 1 goes live.
Season 1
This means that you can get Veteran Gear from Tier 3 Delves before Season 1 goes live.
This means that you can get Hero gear from a Delve Tier 7 and 8 run during Season 1.
Where does the Delver´s Bounty come from exactly
If you complete a normal Delve, you have a small chance on getting a Delver´s Bounty from the end run chest.
If you complete a Bountiful Delve, there is a higher chance to get a Delver´s Bounty from the rare chests.
Can you get more than one Delver´s Bounty a week.
Yes you can, on beta I got several each week. On live, Pattiford got 2 (back to back) Delver´s Bounties after running several Bountiful Delves in one week.
As good as a Great Vault
The ilvl gear from the Delver´s Bounty is very similar to the gear you can get from the Weekly Great Vault.
Season 1
Based on how many Delver´s Bounty you get, you can theoretically farm full Hero Gear before Season 1 goes live. Upgrading the gear with Crests will get you up to 610-626 ilvl! This is to good to be true and will most likely change eventually via a hotfix or a stealth nerf.
The Weekly Great Vault
The Great Vault in World of Warcraft offers players the opportunity to earn extra rewards by completing Delves.Delves are added as a weekly extra reward from the Great Vault. When you complete 3 Delves, you will unlock an extra reward. The gear item level of the reward is based on the Tier of the Delves you completed. The higher the Tier, the higher the item level gear you will receive. Completing 6 Delve runs will unlock another gear reward, and completing 12 Delve runs will unlock yet another gear reward. However, when choosing gear from the Great Vault, you can only choose 1 of the 3 Gear rewards that you unlocked.
By completing Tier 1 delves, you will be rewarded with 584 ilvl gear (Veteran 1/8).
By completing Tier 2 delves, you will be rewarded with 587 ilvl gear Veteran 2/8).
By completing Tier 3 delves, you will be rewarded with 590 ilvl gear (Veteran 3/8).
By completing Tier 4 delves, you will be rewarded with 593 ilvl gear (Veteran 4/8).
By completing Tier 5 delves, you will be rewarded with 600 ilvl gear (Champion 2/8).
By completing Tier 6 delves, you will be rewarded with 606 ilvl gear (Champion 4/8).
By completing Tier 7 delves, you will be rewarded with 610 ilvl gear.
By completing Tier 8 delves, you will be rewarded with 616 ilvl gear (Hero 3/6).
Completing Tiers higher than 8 will still only reward 616 ilvl gear (Hero 3/6)
