How to gear up in patch 10.2 before and during season 3

Let´s say that you just started a new character today, before 10.2 goes live. Or maybe you have a main character where you wonder if you can gear it up in 10.2 before Season 3 goes live. Or maybe you are changing to a new main.

How good can you gear up before Season 3 goes live and also, how can you gear up in Season 3?

10.2 Gear up Before Season 3

Main Storyline - 415-421 ilvl (Explorer Gear)

The main storyline has 7 chapters and here is info on chapter 1-5. 10.2 We are getting all gear slots except for 1 ring and 2 trinkets. The gear of the ilvl differs on story progress which maybe means that we are getting chapter 1-4 first and 5-7 later.

Gear is Explorer so it can be upgraded all the way to 437 ilvl (415-437 ilvl).

Three Weeklies 441-447 ilvl (Veteran)

There are 3 weeklies in 10.2 that reward very good outdoor gear. The gear is Veteran gear between rank 1-3. Veteran Gear in 10.2 ranges between 441 ilvl to 463 ilvl gear. That means that this gear ranges between Raid LFR and Normal mode Gear drop.

The first outdoor content that rewards this gear is the Superbloom event.

The second outdoor content that rewards this gear is the Weekly quest "Blooming Dreamseeds". Rewards 441 1/8 Veteran

The third outdoor content that rewards this gear is the Weekly quest "A Worthy Ally Dream Wardens".

418 Explorer gear - Bind when Equipped (BoE)

Slumbering Dream Fragment is an item that you can get in 10.2. Combining 5 of these items, you will get a treasure chest called Renewed Dream. This chest can contain:

BoE 418 ilvl 2/8 Explorer (437 ilvl max upgrade without any crests)

BoE 421 ilvl 3/8 Explorer (437 ilvl max upgrade without any crests)The slots I have seen are- Rings- Feet- Waist- Wrist- Chest

The Slumbering Dream Fragment can drop from many sources such as treasures, rares, seed reward, random mobs BUT there is a special way to farm LOADS of them.

When the Emerald Frenzy event is up (this event always starts directly after the Superbloom event), go there and kill as many mobs as you can tied to that event for 10 minutes. I got more than 100 Slumbering Dream Fragments when farming alone. You can do it in a group so you kill more and loot more.

Buy 418 (Adventure) Gear from Auction House

Since there will be loads of players getting the 418 ilvl gear (Adventure) from the Renewed Dream chests, you will see a lot of them on the Auction House.

Profession Crafting (447-460 ilvl)

Crafted Gear in 10.2 goes up to 460 ilvl before season 3 and then up to 483 ilvl in season 3. The new spark in 10.2 is called Sparks of Dreams and the ilvl ranges between: 447 - 460 ilvl.

Since we got the Spark and were able to craft Season 2 gear directly on the first week in 10.1, then theoretically we should get access to the new Sparks of Dreams on the first week of 10.2.

This means that you can craft once piece of gear all the way to 460 ilvl on the first week of 10.2 and then up to 483 ilvl when Season 3 starts.

Profession PvE (447-483)

You first need a spark that gives an ilvl between 447-460 based on profession skill. Then you can upgrade with Enchanted Worm/Aspect Dreaming Crest.
